Throat Problems
Throat problems in children are common. Everyone will know someone that has had their tonsils removed! In the past, tonsil surgery was much more common, but is now reserved for patients where we know that surgery will make a big difference and is therefore justified.
Tonsillectomy is now much more commonly performed for obstructive sleep apnoea rather than recurrent tonsillitis. Obstructive sleep apnoea occurs when children snore and struggle to breathe at night, usually as a result of tonsils and adenoids blocking the breathing passages.
